Dinner at Chef Mickey’s-Disney World

Chef Mickey’s seems to be a rite of passage for most Disney World visitors. I’ve seen this famed buffet, located in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, on most people’s first visit itineraries to the Happiest Place on Earth. Somehow during our past visits, it eluded us, until now.

The actual buffet is located in the center of the restaurant.

It is broken into pods with two locations for each dish. My dream buffet set up.

This way if Lulu Belle wants to take ten minutes to decide if she wants mashed potatoes or mac and cheese, you can mosey over to another pod without having to send passive aggressive, telepathic waves, communicating,

I know I want mac and cheese, could you please just move over two inches so I can get to the mac and cheese.

One of the nice things about Disney is that they don’t serve the same food at every buffet, so if you plan on eating at a few different ones during your stay, you will get a good variety of dishes.

My Polish girl heart was a light at the sight of kielbasa and sauerkraut, and pierogis.

Pierogis are one of my favorite foods.

I also enjoyed the salmon and the pasta primavera. Everything was tasty.

One thing about Chef Mickey’s, as well as the other character buffets, is that you have to put a little effort into timing your buffet station visits. You don’t want to miss the characters because you’re busy spooning more kielbasa onto your plate. Fortunately there is usually a cast member who stops by your table to let you know that so and so will be around in just a few minutes.

Chef Mickey’s is a popular character buffet because you get to meet the Fab Five (Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, and Minnie). They are all in cute chef outfits, except for Minnie. Apparently Minnie doesn’t do the heavy cooking.

The characters are great. I’m not sure what it was, perhaps just my general excitement and enthusiasm over just about everything, but Minnie Mouse took a shining to me. After making her rounds in our room, she stopped back at our table to give me an extra squeeze. It was the second best part of my day, after getting owl swooped during Animal Kingdom’s Flights of Wonder show.

There’s intermittent dance parties and napkin twirling, so it’s a perfect option if you need to keep the kids occupied and entertained while you eat.

Our birthday boy got a special treat.

It’s really not much of a treat, because the birthday cupcakes are more like grocery store cupcakes. They are pretty bland. It’s okay though, because Chef Mickey’s has lots of delicious desserts.

I appreciate Disney’s ability to Mickey-fy foods.

I know it’s not the most exotic of desserts, but I was thrilled with the option of unlimited rice crispy treats. I have a special place in my heart, or more accurately, a special place in my belly, for rice crispy treats.

If you’re looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, I suggest you hop on the Contemporary Resort’s elevator and ride a few floors up to the California Grill (we’ve been there it’s great), but if you want a fun, entertaining evening, with a tasty variety of foods, complete with hugs from Mickey and the crew, then dinner at Chef Mickey’s is an excellent choice.

I have never eaten here either. Looks fun. We have eaten at Goofy’s Kitchen and The PCH grill at Disneyland California. Similar character dining experience. I’ll have to try Chef Mickey next time I am in Florida.

We’ve been to Disney World three times and still have never eaten at Chef Mickey’s. It’s on our to do list, though. One of my favorite things about Disney is the special interactions with the characters. On our Disney cruise last month, my son was crawling around on the floor or one of the decks and Chip and Dale walked by on their way to a meet and greet and they stopped for a moment and got down on their hands and knees and started crawling around the floor with him. It was so special and something I’ll remember for a long time. #weekendwanderlust

Disney themed buffet sounds amazing! And I agree, I know I want mac and cheese too! Move outta the way 😛

What’s your favourite Disney restaurant? There’s so much to choose from! We haven’t been in years but loved the breakfast with the princesses in the castle!
