Finding Your Coffee Vibe in Cape Town

After the breathtaking scenery, and the abundant amount of activities, the thing that I miss most about Cape Town, is the coffee.

Coffee in Cape Town is serious business. You won’t find hyper sweetened, flavored beverages. You want a latte, you get a latte. It will be one of the most expertly crafted lattes you have ever had.

Cafes are prevalent in the city. Each has its own vibe. Whether you are looking to get your hustle on, meet up with friends, or just chill out, there’s a coffee shop in Cape Town for you.

Mischu – Get Your Hustle On

With its bright, contemporary, minimalist interior, and generally quiet atmosphere, Mischu is a coffee shop without distraction.

There is just the right balance of coffee equipment sounds and politely toned conversations, to create excellent back ground noise.

Mischu seems to be a great spot to get your hustle on.

Though the shop is well attended, it isn’t packed like some of the other shops, so it doesn’t seem to be an issue if you hang around to get a bit of  work done.

The drinks are fantastic and will give you the fuel you need to get things done.

They aren’t overly strong or bitter. The coffee is smooth with a nice punch. You know when you order a caffeinated drink in Cape Town, the barista is not rushing just to get it done. They really put their hearts into each creation.

Mischu is a place to inspire hustle.

Origin- Learn

We visit Origin as part of our Cape Town Food and Wine Tour. Origin feels as if a mad scientist, with a strong artistic flair, got very passionate about coffee and opened a shop.

If you want to get a serious lesson in coffee, Origin is the place to go.

If possible, sit at the counter so you can get an up close view of the wild coffee dance taking place. Though the baristas are dead serious about their caffeine, they are also extremely friendly, and will answer questions when they can.

I might be a bit behind on the caffeine scene, as this is the first time I experience vacuumed coffee. I am fascinated. It is super cool. I think I could spend at least an hour or two watching the baristas at Origin create crazy coffee science.

If you want a place where you can get schooled in the art of coffee, get yourself to Origin.

Bootlegger – Meet Up

Bootlegger is jumping the morning we visit. Despite the crowd, the servers never try to turn over tables or rush people out.

As I look around the purposefully rustic, cozy, shop, I see friends, couples, co-workers, biting into eggy breakfast sandwiches, and sipping delicious looking drinks. Clearly Bootlegger is the place to meet up.

All of the caffeinated beverages we have in Cape Town are impressive, but I will say that the latte I have at Bootlegger is the fluffiest latte I have ever had. It’s like drinking a latte cloud. I’m not even sure how they do it.

Bootlegger has a light, energetic vibe. With great drinks and a tasty food menu, it’s the perfect place to meet up with people for a morning jolt or afternoon pick-me-up, accompanied by a yummy waffle or burger.

Strolla – Chill Out

The beachy location, with plenty of outdoor seating, makes Strolla coffee shop the ideal place to sip slowly.

Located across from the Sea Point Promenade, it’s a popular place to fuel up after a morning Promenade run.

Morning sunshine spills across the deck, illuminating Strolla’s cheerful colors. The baristas are happy to whip up a drink made with Bootleggers’ coffee, and pluck a delightful bakery item from the counter.

Life is downright pleasant when you have the smell of freshly made coffee, a warm cup in your hands, the smooth, not too sweet taste of the contents within, and the sound of waves in the background. Strolla is the place for cups and chilling out

Cape Town has elevated the art of coffee. With, so many choices, many we didn’t get to try, there is a coffee shop in Cape Town for every vibe.

There are so many great places to get coffee in Cape Town! I wouldn’t have thought Cape Town to have such a coffee scene, but I’ll have to remember that if I ever visit!

If you visit you have to check a few of them out. If we had time we would have gone back to Origin to watch more vacuum coffee

The coffee sitting on my desk at work right now looks woefully inadequate next to these pictures….I never would have thought of Cape Town as a great place for coffee, but it clearly is! Good to know!

I wish one of these coffee places was near where I worked so I could continue to get my yummy latte fix

    Those coffee places look fantastic.

I wonder what is going to happen to coffee in Cape Town with the water shortage?

    Great photos.

We were curious about that as well and if it would eventually hurt business

I would not have thought of Cape Town as a coffee place – like Rome or Paris but these lattes look so good – I’d love to try one that is described as “fluffy”

It really surprised us as well. There was such a variety of coffee places too.

I had no idea that Cape Town is a “coffee city”. And I’d really like to try the “latte cloud” one – the fluffier the better!

We had no idea too until we got there. We could have spent a whole other week just going around and trying lattes

Trying so many coffee shops abroad did make me feel like I need to do more searching and trying shops in my own city. Maybe I’ll find a local fluffy latte someday.
